The lost surface area of a rectangular cube is to becalculated if two smaller cubes with each side being 5 cm are attached together.

Answer to Problem 3PP
Surface area of rectangular cube is lost by 50 cm2 .
Explanation of Solution
Given information:
Each side to two cubes=5 cm.
Formula used:
The surface area of cube = 6s2
Area of rectangular pieces =2(lw+lh+hw)
Calculation:
The surface area of each cube
=6(5)2=6×25=150 cm2
The total surface area of both cubes
=150+150=300 cm2
When two cubes are attached, then the area of the rectangular piece is
Surface of rectangular piece =2(lw+lh+hw)
=2(5×10+5×5+5×10)
=2(50+25+50)
=2(125)
=250 cm2
Surface Area Lost=300cm2−250cm2=50cm2
Conclusion:
The surface area of the rectangular cube is lost by 50 cm2 .
