The process of determination of the type of the solution is to be explained.
Answer to Problem 14STP
Solution can be saturated, unsaturated, and supersaturated. This can be understood by observing the solution. If solution is saturated, further adding of potassium nitrate will result in the settling down of the salt at the bottom. If it is unsaturated, more potassium nitrate can dissolved in it. If it is supersaturated it will show settled particles of the salt at the bottom without further addition of salt just by lowering its temperature.
Explanation of Solution
There are two main types of the solution, one is saturated and other is unsaturated. One another type of solution is also there that is supersaturated. In saturated solution no more solute can be dissolved into the solvent. In unsaturated solution solute concentration is lower than its equilibrium solubility. Supersaturated is a solution that contains more of the dissolved material than could be dissolved by the solvent under normal circumstances.
Conclusion:
If solution is saturated, further adding of potassium nitrate will result in the settling down of the salt at the bottom. If it is unsaturated, more potassium nitrate can dissolved in it. If it is supersaturated it will show settled particles of the salt at the bottom without further addition of salt just by lowering its temperature.
