Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

Asolution becomes supersaturated when amount of solute it contains is more than a saturated solution at the same temperature. Supersaturated solution is not stable.

As the solute crystallizes on adding crystal to the solution, the solution is supersaturated. The excess solute which is dissolved in the solvent recrystallizes because equilibrium between dissolution and crystallisation is disturbed.

Conclusion:

Thus, if a solute crystallizes out when a seed crystal is added, the solution is supersaturated.
