Introduction:
There are a variety of fungal soybean diseases which can have a major effect on seed quality. The most popular in Indiana are Phomopsis seed decay, Cercospora violet seed stain, Frogeye seed leaf blot, Anthracnose, etc. Such infected seed diseases may have reduced storage period, limited germination, and seed weight loss and reduced quality of meal and oil.
Explanation of Solution
Optimum processing methods for limiting fungal growth include: seed free of fungi or other pests, clean seed without chemical or other waste material, less than 12 percent moisture and cool uniform storage temperature. 10% of the population in the United States eats soybean that is one of the most commonly eaten sprouts. The fungal diseases in soybean plants contribute to food spoilage and rise in soybean pathogenesis. This results in lowering the rate of production of soyabean in US.
Thus, it can be estimated that the effect of fungus in soyabean cultivation may cause huge loss of production in US.
