Chapter 20, Problem 10A
Summary Introduction

To write:

The difference between hyphae and mycelium.

Introduction:

A hypha is a extended, branching filamentous make up the mycelium of a fungi, oomycete, or actinobacterium. In many hyphae of fungi are the important stage of vegetative development, and are commonly known a mycelium. Both the mycelium and the hyphae are reason for an important body process of fungi- absorption of nutrients and food from the environment. The hyphae in every mycelium provide the enzyme for this process.

Explanation of Solution

    Hyphae Mycelium
    1. Hyphae are the fine, white branching filaments which make up the mycelium, 1. Mycelium is the vegetative part of the fungus, consisting of hyphae.
    2. Building blocks of the fungus. 2. A collection of hyphae.
    3. Look like filaments, threads or strands. 3. Looks like a patch of threads or strands.

The hypha is the common body plan of a fungus. It is consisting of single or multiple cells near by a tubular cell wall. On the other hand, mycelium is the vegetative part of the fungus. In relation to the hyphae, it is the network collection or group of hyphae in one single place.

Conclusion

Hyphae are the main stage of vegetative growth, and are collectively called as mycelium. So, in this way we can differentiate between hyphae and mycelium.
