Dissolution of substances is the process where the solute (either in a solid, liquid, or gaseous state) dissolves in the solvent (liquid) to form a solution.
Solvation is the process where the solvent molecule interacts with the solute molecules.
Limestone is called calcium carbonate which is insoluble in water. But still, this can be dissolved in water to form limestone caves/sinkholes. This is because of the microbial decomposition and root respiration of the nearby plants which adds carbon to the water, thereby reducing the pH.
