Explanation of Solution

Boyle’s Law states that, as pressure decreases then the volume is increased or vice versa. So, when the valve is opened, the volume is a change with due respect pressure is also changed. When the valve opens, the volume changes from the high pressure region to low pressure region. As reaching the state where the volume of both bulbs becomes equal then pressure is also equal on both bulbs.

Pressure of right bulb = 3atm

  P1V1=P2V2V2=P1V1P2=2×95=3.6L

For right bulb:-

  P1V1=P2V2V2=P1V1P2=3×35=1.8L

The total volume is,

  Vt=V1+V2=5.4L

Now, the total pressure is,

  PtVt=P1V1+P2V2

  PtVt=P1V1+P2V2Pt=P1V1+P2V2Vt=(2×9)+(3×3)5.4=275.4=5.0atm
