Chapter 12, Problem 23RQ
Summary Introduction
To determine: The way in which fibres present in different types of muscles generate ATP.
Introduction: The key feature of muscle physiology is the use of ATP by the fibers of muscles. Muscles need energy continuously. The muscle fibres require energy during contraction for the movement of the cross-bridge. They need energy during relaxation for the pumping of calcium ions back into the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Finally, the sodium ions and potassium ions are restored to their respective intracellular compartments after excitation-contraction coupling.
