The energy required to heat 250 mL of water is 78450 J (in Joule) and 18750 calories (in calorie).

Explanation of Solution

The volume of water is 250 mL and the density of water is 1g/mL . Now use the formula of density to calculate the mass of water.

  Density=MassVolume

    Mass=1g/mL×250mL

       =250g

So, the mass of water is 250 g.

  T1=25°C

   T2=100°C

  ΔT=100°C25°C

     =75°C

The specific heat capacity of water is 4.184J/g°C . Now, put all the values in equation (1) to calculate heat.

  Q=250g×75°C×4.184J/g°C

    =78450J

  1cal=4.184J

So, the conversion factor to convert energy from joule to calorie is 1cal4.184J

  Energyincalorie=78450J×1cal4.184J

          =18750cal

Conclusion

Joule and Calorie both are units of energy.
