Chapter 10, Problem 16E

Exercise 1-14A Using JIT to minimize waste and lost opportunity

Becky Shelton, a teacher at Kemp Middle School, is in charge of ordering the T-shirts to be sold for the school’s annual fund-raising project. The T-shirts are printed with a special Kemp School logo. In some years, the supply of T-shirts has been insufficient to satisfy the number of sales orders. In other years, T-shirts have been left over. Excess T-shirts are normally donated to some charitable organization. T-shirts cost the school $5 each and are normally sold for $12 each. Ms. Shelton has decided to order 700 shirts.

nework aw 2 Problem 10-29A (Algo) Using JIT to minimize waste and lost opportunity LO 1-5 CIA Review, Inc. provides review courses twice each year for students studying to take the CIA exam. The cost of textbooks is included in the registration fee. Text material requires constant updating and is useful for only one course. To minimize printing costs and ensure availability of books on the first day of class, CIA Review has books printed and delivered to its offices two weeks in advance of the first class. To ensure that enough books are available, CIA Review normally orders 10 percent more than expected enrollment. Usually there is an oversupply and books are thrown away. However, demand occasionally exceeds expectations by more than 10 percent and there are too few books available for student use. CIA Review has been forced to turn away students because of a lack of textbooks. CIA Review expects to enroll approximately 200 students per course. The tuition fee is $860 per student. The…

i-Case One Running and Growing a Business Sherri has always loved to fix healthy snacks for family and friends and about a year ago she started to sell boxes of them at the local farmer’s market. Last week she heard from a local grocery chain that also wants to stock them. When Sherri was treating her snacks as a hobby, she never paid attention to the costs. Now, she needs to get a better understanding of the costs and cost behavior patterns. At this point she plans to rent a small space for the snack operation and to store inventory. She also has arranged for some part time help to support the snack making operation. These part-time workers will be paid a flat amount per box of snacks and will only be called into work if the volume of business makes it necessary. She also plans to hire someone to help stimulate additional sales. This salesperson’s compensation will include a small salary and a commission of a $1.00 for each box of snacks sold. For question 1-3 determine the most…
