Question
Chapter 9, Problem 86A
To determine
The block of the wood moves faster.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Momentum of an object is mass times the velocity. It is a vector quantity.
When rubber bullet hits the block due to elastic property of rubber, it rebounds with velocity in opposite direction. So, this velocity is taken as negative. Momentum after collision is negative. Block’s momentum is increased.
Conclusion:
Block of wood move faster when rubber bullet hits it.
