The parasympathetic division of the autonomus nervous system is also referred to as cranial sacral division. The preganglionic fiber of this division originates in the brain as well as in the fourth sacral region of the spinal cord. These fibers are also known as terminal ganglia and transmit the nerve impulse to the postganglionic fibers, which synapses with the effector cells.
