The points at which digested polysaccharides, proteins and fats enter the energy pathways.

Concept introduction:

The large macromolecules like proteins, carbohydrates and fats are broken down into simpler forms to release energy. The simpler molecules are then further broken down to pyruvate or $\text{acetyl}\text{CoA}$ which are required for the energy pathways like in the processes of aerobic respiration: glycolysis and the Krebs cycle.
