Chapter 34, Problem 15A
Summary Introduction

To write:

The term defines the exchange of gases between the blood and the body’s cells.

Introduction:

The respiratory system is the connection between organs and tissues that control our breathing. It consists of our airways, lungs, and blood vessels. The muscles that strengthen our lungs are additional components of the respiratory system. These parts function together to support our body to absorb oxygen from the air so our organs can function. It additionally cleans waste gases, such as carbon dioxide, from our blood. Common troubles consist of allergies, diseases, or infections.

Explanation of Solution

The method of circulating oxygen from the blood into the interstitial fluid and cells is inner respiration. Waste and carbon dioxide also spread from the cells to the blood in the other direction. Oxygen is released from blood cells in the blood vessel capillaries, which are usually very low, in response to the concentration of oxygen. This allows the exchange of gases and solutes between the plasma and the interstitial fluid during inner breathing. Internal respiration occurs in metabolism tissues, where oxygen diffuses out of the blood and carbon dioxide passes from the cells. External respiration occurs in the lungs where oxygen spreads in the blood and CO2 spread to the alveolar air.

Conclusion

Thus, this term defines the exchange of gases between the blood and the body’s cells.
