Sedimentary rocks are formed in the process over four stages, weathering, erosion, deposition, and sedimentation. The decomposition of rock at or near Earth’s surface is the weathering process. The two types of weathering are mechanical and chemical weathering. In the mechanical weathering, agents physically break the rock into smaller pieces.
