Introduction:
Rhizobia are soil-based Gram-negative bacteria that are crucial for nitrogen fixation in the atmosphere. They require a plant host, mostly leguminous plants to express the genes for nitrogen fixation. They form a symbiotic relationship with leguminous plant roots and fix more nitrogen which increases the nitrogen content in the soil. These rhizobia develop bacteroids within the plant cells which do not possess cell walls and do not reproduce but have specialized functions.
