Chapter 2, Problem 27P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The orbital which overlaps to the corresponding bonding, antibonding, and nonbonding are to be determined.

Concept introduction:

If two atomic orbitals such as an s orbital and p orbital interact, then the additive interaction generates a bonding orbital while the subtractive interaction generates antibonding orbital. No interaction generates a nonbonding orbital.

Electrostatic potential maps give an exaggerated picture of the charge distribution when the entire palette of colors is used to show the charge distribution. Red region shows a greater negative charge while the blue region shows a greater positive charge.

3) How many electrons are delocalized in how many p-orbitals? Draw the most and second most stable resonance structures of the following compound. Order the structures by increasing stability. What is the partial charge distribution in the resonance hybrid?
1,Which of the following statements is true? Group of answer choices A, A p bond results from the sideways overlap of hybridized orbitals. B, A p bond is the result of the overlap of an s orbital and a p orbital. C, A p bond is twice as strong as a sigma bond. D, A p bond results from the sideways overlap of p orbitals.   2,  According to Lewis structure for the simplest amino acid, glycine, H2NCH2CO2H (check EXAMPLE 4.16) and  valence-bond theory, the bonding is described as following:Group of answer choices A, 8σ,  1π B, 14σ,  1π C, 9σ,  1π D, 10σ,  0π
Point out the hybridization situation (sp3, sp2, sp, or not hybridized) of the highlighted atoms below.: note that you are responsible for adding proper number of lone pairs wherever necessary. C(highlighted) on the left is __________ hybridized; so the bond angle CCC (around the same carbon) is  O(highlighted) on the right is ___________ hybridized; so the bond angle COC (around the oxygen) is _______ N(highlighted) at the top-left corner is __________________ hybridized; so the bond angle NCC is __________ . N(highlighted) on the right is __________________ hybridized; so the bond angle CNC is __________ .
