To analyze:
The reason for the labelling of the products as cloned animal product or normal label, such as in case of milk, obtained from the cloned cows or their descendants, while these cloned animals are identical to the normal ones.
Introduction:
Animal cloning is an approach of reproductive cloning for producing the animal clones of desirable qualities. In animal cloning, a mature somatic cell is removed from the animal which we want to copy and transferred into the egg or oocyte of the recipient cell. This recipient cell must be enucleated and should not contain the viable nucleus. There are more than 1000 cloned farm animals in the United States and the milk from these cloned cows and their offspring may be available in the markets in near future. These cloned animals are not transgenic and are not different from identical twins.

- 5) Below is an image that shows both reproductive and therapeutic cloning. Use this image to answer compare and contrast therapeutic and reproductive cloning. Are they used for similar means…etc. Once you have done that answer the question below. a) There are two types of therapeutic cloning. What are they and how are they different?arrow_forward2) Transgenic animal refers to an organism whose genome has been altered by the transfer of a gene or genes from another species or breed. Cows, pigs and goats had been modified especially for pharmaceutical purposes. Explain three (3) most used transfection technology for the creation of transgenic animals.arrow_forwardA survey was conducted in 500 Filipinos belonging to the very low to low income generating families with at most a high school diploma. The study found out that 95% of the participants believed that consuming GMOs lead to unwanted mutations. Among the most common fear listed was the development of unwanted phenotypes for their children and grandchildren because of eating GM crops. Based on your accumulated knowledge in genetics and on how GMOs are produced, explain why the claim is impossible to happen. Use one specific example of GMO to justify your answers.arrow_forward
- AquAdvantage salmon is a genetically modified (GM) Atlantic salmon developed by AquaBounty Technologies. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the company's application to allow the entry of this GM salmon into the United States food supply late last year. The FDA announced that: "AquAdvantage salmon is as safe to eat as any non- genetically engineered (GE) Atlantic salmon, and also as nutritious." However, opponents of genetically modified food are claiming that the AquAdvantage salmons could pose a serious environmental risk to the marine ecosystem if the engineered fishes escape from the farms. These transgenic salmons would be a big threat to the wild salmons. Justify this statement.arrow_forwardIt has been suggested that it would make the study of human diseases easier if cloned transgenic animals were produced that carried faulty versions of human genes (e.g., the gene that causes cystic fibrosis). a. Why would such animals be useful in medical research? : b. What ethical questions are raised by the creation of such transgenic animals?arrow_forwardYou’ve made your construct and placed it into E. coli! Congratulations, you have made a transgenic organism. Your investors will want to know about quality control. How will you check that the correct piece of DNA is in your vector? How will you check to make sure the gene is transcribed? How will you check to make sure that the GasP protein is made in E. coli?arrow_forward
- Do you agree or disagree why? Prior to this video I had not been introduced to the concept of genetically modified babies or "designer babies". However, a concept that was brought up in comparison to the designer babies was IVF babies. This concept is more familiar to me and made me think of the great possibilities designer babies could bring, but at what cost? As IVF first became popular it seemed to be well known that was was a possibility for well-off financially families. Although designer babies may have benefits such as lowering the risk to develop hereditary diseases, I don't think this concept would be widely accessible to varying income levels.arrow_forwardDolly is the first mammal to have been successfully cloned from an adult cell Which of the following statement/s is/are most relevant to the birth of Dolly? I. It suggests that human could be cloned. II. It proves that specialized cells could be used to create an exact copy of the animal they came from. III. It improves the production of milk, meat, and other products from livestock. IV. It proves that animals could be cloned to have gene mutations that help scientists study diseases that develop in the animals. A. II only B. I and II C. III, and IV D. II, III, and IV Which of the following statements best explain the significance of mitosis and ? A. Both mitosis and meiosis produce diploid cells which responsible for the continuity of life. B. Many single-celled organisms rely on mitosis and meiosis as their primary means of asexual reproduction C. replication, cells have another interesting choice, whether they want to make an identical copy, or do they want to make four half-copies…arrow_forwardA 60 years old man comes to your clinic presenting with stomach pain, sore muscles, fever, and dark urine. He has also poor appetite and nausea. Laboratory findings are the elevation of liver enzymes. Finally PCR results declared that he is suffering from HCV. There exist so many biological, genetic and environmental factors that he might be suffered from Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC). Research findings indicate that this transformation may be due to Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNPs) of any of the gene (like SNP in TGF-beta). By having the knowledge of molecular techniques writes the name and full form of that technique that can be used for the determination of SNParrow_forward
- A PI in your facility has finished working with his transgenic line of mice and would like you to cryopreserve embryos (freeze them in liquid nitrogen) so that he can keep them for later experimentation without paying the extra cost of a breeding colony. Which of the following steps do you take? Select all that apply: a) Use the van der Lee/Boot and Whitten effect to time mate your females. b) Superovulate your females by injecting with PMSG and hCG. c) Breed the mice with a vasectomized male. d) Collect ova from the ampulla the day you find a plug. e) Collect blastocysts from the uterus 3 days after finding a plug.arrow_forwardWhat is a fluorophore? If you wanted to fluorescently label a brain cell, describe one way you could genetically label a brain cell using a transgenic approach and give one way you could genetically label a brain cell using a gene targeting homologous recombination approach.arrow_forwardWhich of the following statements is TRUE about reverse genetics? OReverse genetics analysis starts with mutants with altered phenotypes and identifies the genetic causes of the mutant phenotypes. Reverse genetics can be performed by random mutagenesis but not targeted mutagenesis. Reverse genetics analysis starts with a known DNA sequence, mRNA, or protein. Reverse genetics analysis relies on controlled crosses between mutants with distinct phenotypes.arrow_forward
