Chapter 17.4, Problem 1CC
Summary Introduction

A collection of the total genomic DNA from a single organism is called a genomic library. In the genomic library, the DNA is stockpiled in a population of identical vectors. Each of them carries a different insert of DNA. The genomic library is constructed by cleaving the genome of an organism into many fragments. Each of the fragments is cloned into a vector in order to synthesize a unique recombinant plasmid.

Describe how one might determine which protein in E. coli are repressed when a culture is shifted from a minimal medium (containing only a single carbon source) to a rich medium containing many amino acids, bases, and vitamins. How might one study which genes are expressed during each growth condition?
Provide a detailed description of gene expression and control in prokaryotes. Provide a detailed description of proteins critical for this process. (please hand draw a figure showing gene expression and control in prokaryotes and the proteins involved)
