Concept explainers
(a) Interpretation:
Cells showing low activity of HMG-CoA reductase, when cultured with LDL, and the removal of LDL increases its activity is to be discussed.
Concept introduction:
HMG-CoA reductase is an enzyme for rate-controlling that can control production of cholesterol in the liver.
(b) Interpretation:
FH individual cells show high activity of HMG-CoA reductase whether LDL is present or not is to be discussed.
Concept Introduction:
HMG-CoA reductase is an enzyme for rate-controlling that can control production of cholesterol in the liver. LDL subdues the enzyme activity hence its presence makes the enzymes to have low activity and its absence increases the activity. On the other hand, in FH patience LDL makes no difference because of its inability to inhibit the enzyme action.
