Certain omega-3 fatty acids can be found only in animal sources, such as fatty fish. Two of these are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) [20:5] and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) [22:6], both of which are ω-3 fatty acids. DHA has been shown to be important in healthy brain development, so it has recently been added to infant formulas. Breast milk is rich in DHA as long as the mother maintains a healthy diet that includes fish. Draw skeletal structures of the fatty acids EPA and DHA.
Explain why cholesterol, a compound with molecular formula C 27H 46O and one OH group, is soluble in CCl 4 but insoluble in water.

Our bodies synthesize vitamin D when our skin is exposed to sunlight, but the lack of outdoor exercise by today's children, in conjunction with regular use of sunscreen, may be contributing to a rise in the disease. The amount of vitamin D3 in fortified foods and fish can be measured by UV-Vis spectrometry. (J. Agric. Food Chem. 2009, 57, 2135-2146.) Using Woodward-Fieser rules, estimate the expected Amax for vitamin D3: HO.. Vitamin D3 CH3 nm H CH3 Select the number of each feature present in vitamin D3. - Alkaloids are basic nitrogen-containing compounds of plant origin, many of which are physiologically active when administered to humans. Ingestion of coniine, isolated from water hemlock, can cause weakness, labored respiration, paralysis, and eventually death. Coniine is the toxic substance in the “poison hemlock” used in the death of Socrates. In small doses, nicotine is an addictive stimulant. In larger doses, it causes depression, nausea, and vomiting. In still larger doses, it is a deadly poison. Solutions of nicotine in water are used as insecticides.
