Sonar is a scientific way of using sound waves to locate objects. Oil or other deposits underground can be located using the sonar technique.

Sound waves are used to see underground formations. The sonar sends sound waves through the ocean or underground. The wave bounces off or reflects from the different layers of soil. It can detect whether the oil is presently based on the echo which returns to the detector or reflects. The time taken to bounce back by the sound wave is measured, and the scientist collects the data and inferred it for the appropriate drilling spot.
