Introduction:

Temperature is a major factor that affects the speed of sound. At higher temperatures, the molecules or particles have more energy and can vibrate faster. The sound waves travel faster, as the molecules vibrate faster.

At higher temperatures, the sound moves faster through a medium than at low temperatures. In air or gas, for example, the molecules or particles are not bound closely together as in the case of solids. The particles move easily and bounce in case of gases. As the temperature increases, the particles gain energy and bounce more and it takes lesser time for the sound wave to travel. Therefore, sound travels faster in hot air than in cold air.

Hence, sound speed up as temperature increases.
