Introduction:

Sound is a mechanical wave which requires a medium to travel. A sound wave travels through a medium by pressure or density variation.

The speed of sound waves varies from medium to medium. Its speed depends on how the molecules present in it vibrates and move.In solids, the molecules are closely packed as compared to that in liquid. In gases, there is loose packing of molecules. The close packing of molecules in solid helps the sound to travel much faster in solids than through liquid and least in gases.

Conclusion:

Sound waves travel through different mediums at different speed. It can travel through solids, liquids and gas. Sound waves can travel faster in solids than in liquid and gas.
