Introduction:

Sound is a form of energy and is produced by vibrations in the molecules of the medium. The sound waves are mechanical waves and vibration is produced as the sound travels.

Sound waves from instruments consist of multiple layers of waves each of which is unique to the instrument.Overtones and Harmonics are one of the reasons why sound quality differs from instrument to instrument. For example, a guitar sounds different than a piano as they have strings of different lengths and, thus produce different frequencies.The quality of the material of the instrument is also one of the reasons for producing different sound.
