Interpretation:

The factor that accounts for the yield of product obtained in the elimination and SN2 reactions of ethyl bromide and isobutyl bromide is to be explained.

Concept introduction:

The reactivity of alkyl halides in SN2 reactions decreases with an increase in the number of alkyl groups attached to the carbon atom bonded to the halide group.

The reactivity of alkyl halides in the elimination reaction depends upon the stability of carbocation intermediate. The more the stability of carbocation, the higher is the reactivity and the reaction tends to a higher yield.
