Summary Introduction

To write:

The relationship between the terms solution and mixture.

Introduction:

Explanation of Solution

When a powdered substance is added to water, it results in a mixture. A mixture is a combination of two or more substances that can retain its individual characteristics and properties. When a mixture has a uniform composition throughout, it is known as a homogeneous mixture or a solution. For example, in a sugar solution, the water retains its properties and the sugar retains its properties. The sugar particles are dissolved and uniformly spread throughout the water. A mixture where the components are distinct is known as heterogeneous mixture. Sand in water is an example of a heterogeneous mixture. There are two components in a solution- solvent and solute. The solvent is a substance in which another substance is dissolved. A solute is a substance that is dissolved in the solvent.

Conclusion

Mixtures are formed when two or more substances are mixed together with each retaining their individual properties. Solutions are homogeneous mixtures formed when a solute is dissolved in a solvent.
