Summary Introduction

To describe: The mechanism by which the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland integrate regulatory functions and summarize the actions of the hypothalamic and pituitary hormones.

Introduction: Hypothalamus is located in the brain, above the pituitary gland. It secretes oxytocin and antidiuretic hormone and controls the pituitary gland. The major function of the hypothalamus is to link the nervous system with the endocrine system through the pituitary gland. This attachment is formed by the presence of infundibulum that attaches posterior pituitary to the hypothalamus.
