Concept explainers
To write:
The comparison of three characteristics of fishes to three characteristics of another group of animals that are already known.
Introduction:
Fishes live in aquatic habitats like lakes, seas, rivers, ponds, etc. Some fishes live in complete darkness at the bottom of the deep ocean whereas others are live in the freezing water of the Polar Regions and have special proteins in their blood to keep the blood from freezing. There are about 24600 species of living fishes are found.
Explanation of Solution
There are various types of fishes in the world. Here, characteristics of fishes can be compared to the characteristics of amphibians as both can live in water. The comparison between fishes and amphibians are given below.
Fishes | Amphibians |
Fishes have gills to breathe. | Amphibians have both gills and lungs to breathe. |
They always live in water. | They live a part of life in water and part on the land. |
Fishes have a heart with two chambers. | The hearts of amphibians have three chambers. |
Thus, the fishes and amphibians can be compared on the basis of their respiratory system, heart structure and their habitat.
