Concept explainers
To explain:
The characteristics of a shark that enable it to be a fast swimmer.
Introduction:
Fishes live in aquatic habitats like lakes, seas, rivers, ponds, etc. Some fishes live in complete darkness at the bottom of the deep ocean whereas others live in the freezing water of the Polar Regions and have special proteins in their blood to keep the blood from freezing. There are about 24,600 species of living fishes are found.
Explanation of Solution
The sharks have strong swimming muscles which enable them to be a fast swimmer. Shark's tail swings from side to side, producing twice as many jets of water as other fish's tails, smoothing out the thrust and possibly making swimming more effective. Sharks have a streamlined, rounded body with a pointed head and a tail at the end of the body. These streamlining features, along with powerful swimming muscles and sharp teeth, make sharks one of the top predators in the sea.
Thus, the tail of the shark and their body shape helped them to be the fast swimmer.
