The buffer system is an aqueous solution of a weak acid and conjugate base. Protein and phosphate are the important buffers that are present in the intracellular and extracellular fluid. Proteins are mainly present in the plasma (intracellular) of the cell. Phosphate is an important urinary buffer that is mainly found in the intracellular fluid of the body.
