Mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles transmit Plasmodium to humans. Malaria is caused by the apicomplexan Plasmodium that infects human red blood corpuscles (RBCs) and spends part of their life cycle inside them. Plasmodium alternates between two hosts: humans and female Anopheles mosquito.
