Chapter 26.3, Problem 1R
Summary Introduction
To review:
The reason behind considering the conjugation between paramecium a sexual process, rather than a reproductive process.
Introduction:
Paramecium is a ciliate having two types of nuclei, one macronucleus and several micronuclei. It also undergoes a sexual phenomenon known as conjugation. In this process, paramecium of compatible mating types lines up against each other and fuses in the oral groove. Macronucleus does not take part in the process of conjugation.
