Concept explainers
To determine:
The evolutionary changes in the body of earthworm due to global warming.
Introduction:
Different climatic factors such as temperature, moisture, precipitation, and the extreme climate like flood and drought are responsible for altering the composition and function of the soil community. The earthworm is an organism that lives in the soil and has a very important role in ecosystem.
Explanation of Solution
The earthworms are important part of ecosystem, the engineers on the soils of the temperate and the tropical regions. With the increase in the temperature, the activity of the earthworm would increase in the soil.
The increase in the temperature allow the earthworm to reach on higher altitude. So, the body of the earthworm would adapt to the higher altitudes and lower oxygen, which will change the circulatory system.
