Concept explainers
To compare:
The organs of a flower in the table given.
Introduction:
Flowers are that organs of the plant that are beautiful, sometimes have refreshing smell, and come in variant colors and patterns. Flower is the reproductive organ of a plant, and such plants are termed as
Explanation of Solution
Petal − Petals are basically modified leaves that function to protect the reproductive parts of flower. Petals are bright in color to attract pollinators.
Pistil − Pistil is the female reproductive organ of flower. The pistil contains ovary in its swollen base. Ovary further contains ovules that take part in fertilization.
Sepal − Sepal is usually green in color, but is some flowers, it is of same color as of petals. The main function of sepal is to protect the flower when it is a bud.
Stamen − Stamen is the reproductive organ of the flower that produces pollen grains.
The table is completed as shown below:
Organ | Location | Function |
Petal | Modified leaves that surround the reproductive organ of flower. | Petals protect the reproductive organ of flower. |
Stamen | It is located between pistil and surrounding petals of flower. | Stamen produces pollen grains, that contain sex cell. |
Sepal | Sepal is generally green in color and is found on the outermost part of flower. | They protect buds and reproductive organ of flower. |
Pistil | It is located centrally in a flower. | Its main function is to produce ovule. |
