Introduction:
The diploid multicellular stage in a plant’s or algae’s life cycle is known as a sporophyte. A sporophyte develops from the zygote that is produced by the fertilization of haploid egg and a haploid sperm. Due to this, every sporophyte has two sets of chromosomes, one from each parent.
Explanation of Solution
A diploid sporophyte gets converted into haploid spores by the process of meiosis. Each spore undergoes mitosis to form a multicellular mass, haploid gametophyte. This gametophyte gets converted into either haploid sperm cell or a haploid egg. Then, haploid egg and haploid sperm cell fertilize to form the zygote.
