Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

A fuse is a wire which is added in series with the electric circuit it protects.

A fuse is made up of a wire of materials which melts when excessive current passes through it. If due to some electrical fault, excessive current passes through the circuit, the fuse melts breaking the circuit and protecting the load.

Conclusion:

The fuse melts when excessive current flows through the circuit thereby protecting the circuit.
