Absence of ketosis or nonketotic hypoglycemia often specifies excessive insulin as the cause of hypoglycemia. Nonketotic hypoglycemia occurs due to the abnormalities in fatty acid oxidation and ketone body formation. It is an early indicator of carnitine deficiency.
