Question
Chapter 22, Problem 22E
Summary Introduction
To explain: The reason why a common diagnostic test for diabetes involves orally administering a glucose solution to an individual and then measuring the concentration of blood glucose two hours later.
Concept introduction: The type 1 diabetes often appears unexpectedly and it is the reason for checking the blood sugar levels. In the oral glucose tolerance test, overnight fasting is required and the fasting blood sugar level is measured. A blood sugar level less than 140 mg/dL is normal. A reading of more than 200 mg/dL after two hours indicates diabetes. A reading between 140 and 199 mg/dL indicates prediabetes.
