To write:The control of materials as they are transported fromsoil to a root’s vascular tissue.
Introduction:Most plants have light absorbing structures, and others that take in water and nutrients. In plants, the main function of two types of vascular tissue-xylem and phloem is the transport of food, water and other dissolved substances.
Explanation of Solution
Water which contains minerals dissolved enters a plant through its roots. Some of the water will be used for photosynthesis. The dissolved minerals have many cell functions. This water with dissolved minerals is transferred across the plant within a xylem system, which passes from the roots to the leaves continuously. The xylem components are vessel element and tracheid. Each vessel element and Tracheid, when mature, consists of only its cell wall. This lack of ripening cytoplasm enables free flow of water through these cells.
Vessel elements are thus open at each end with bar-like strips across the openings allowing the free movement of water and dissolved substances from one vessel element to another. The tracheid cells are found end-to-end and form a tube-like strand which aids carry components from the soil to the vascular tissue of a root.
