Concept explainers
To write: Thefunction of the vascular tissue in a leaf.
Introduction:There are varieties of leaves that have different shapes, colors, and arrangements on plants. These arrangements are different for different species. The principal feature of leaves is photosynthesis. The internal arrangement of the leaves assists in the synthesis process.
Explanation of Solution
The leaf is covered by epidermis. The epidermis comprises of stomata. The underside of the leaves contains more stomata than on the upper side. When more water diffuses into the guard cells than surroundings, their shape alters in such a way that the stoma opens. When more water moves out of the guard cells than into them, these make the stoma to close. In all plants, water passes from the roots up via the stems and into the leaves, replacing the water used in the process of photosynthesis and remove from the plant by evaporation. Water evaporates from the leaf internal side to the outside through stomata and such a process is called transpiration.
