Answer to Problem 6STP
A correct answer is an option (C).
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Velocity is the rate of change of position of an object with time. Velocity can be of two types such as constant velocity and variable velocity. In constant velocity, both direction and magnitude remain the same during the journey. In the case of variable velocity, either one of the magnitude or direction or both are changing with time.
The direction of the motion of the object doesn’t change when it is moving with constant speed. The direction will get changed only when an object is moving in a circle with constant speed. If the velocity is constant, the acceleration can’t be increasing or decreasing or either positive or negative. So, the options (A),(B) and (D) are wrong.
Constant velocity results in zero acceleration because the change in velocity is zero.
Conclusion:
Hence, the acceleration is zero when velocity remains constant.
