Chapter 3, Problem 40GP
A test rocket is launched by accelerating it along a 200.0-m incline at 1.25 m/s2 starting from rest at point A (Figure 3.38). The incline rises at 35.0° above the horizontal, and at the instant the rocket leaves it. its engines turn off and it is subject only to gravity (air resistance can be ignored). Find (a) the maximum height above the ground that the rocket reaches, and (b) the greatest horizontal range of the rocket beyond point A.

a) How high above the ground, in meters, is the rock 2.03 s before it hits the ground?
b) How far horizontally from the cliff, in meters, is the rock 2.03 s before it hits the ground?
A ball is thrown at a 40-degree angle above the horizontal across level ground. It is released from a height of 2.00 m above the ground with a speed of 18.0 m/s. What is the maximum height above the ground that the ball reaches?
A basketball player standing under the hoop fires the ball straight up with an initial velocity of v0=4.5 m/s from 2.5 m above the ground.
Part a) What is the maximum height, h(in meters), above the launch point the basketball will achieve?
Part b) On his first attempt, the ball doesn't make it high enough to reach the hoop. If the hoop is at 3.5 m above the ground, what is the minimum velocity (in m/s) with which he mush launch his second attempt to reach the hoop?
