Chapter 18, Problem 20RA
Summary Introduction

To review:

The activation of the pancreatic enzyme in the intestinal lumen along with the necessity of the mechanism.

Introduction:

Pancreas is the organ which has both exocrine and endocrine functions. It is involved in both digestion as well as endocrine functions. Pancreas secretes alkaline digestive fluid which breaks food into small molecules in the small intestine. Pancreatic juice digests protein, carbohydrate, and fats.

Students have asked these similar questions
WHY is stomach activity inhibited during the intestinal phase of digestion?  Explain in detail, including HOW this is accomplished.
a) What is the general function of all enzymes that are involved in the digestive process.b) Use the Table below to summarise the function of 6 named digestive enzymes that are either secreted from specific regions of the gastrointestinal system, or part of the intestinal brush border.  Enzyme Site of secretion / Action Function (to include substrate and product formed)
Identify the organs of the alimentary canal from the mouth to the anus and briefly state their function? Discuss the roles of the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder in digestion? Why is it important that chyme from the stomach is delivered to the small intestine slowly and in smallamounts? Why does the pancreas secrete some enzymes in their inactive forms, and where are these enzymes activated? Compare and contrast the digestion of the three macronutrients? (Carbs, fats, proteins)
