The term Arthropoda means “jointed foot.” The most distinguishing feature of this phylum is jointed appendages including not only legs and feet, but also antennae, weapons, wings, mouthparts, ornaments, and copulatory organs. All arthropods also have an exoskeleton mostly made up of chitin, protein, and calcium salts.
