Question
Chapter 17.3, Problem 15R
To determine
To Explain: The term semiconductor with the help of an example.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
- Metalloids are those elements that show the properties of metals as well as non-metals.
- Semiconductors are those elements which
conduct theelectric current in very less amount under certain conditions
Some metalloids are used as the semiconductor such as, silicon and germanium because they conduct the electricity under some certain conditions.
Conclusion:
The conductivity lies between the conductor and insulator and silicon is a metalloid which is used as the semiconductor under certain conditions.
