To Describe: The types of halogens obtained from seawater with their uses.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The halogens belong to 17th group in the periodic table. The halogen family contains: Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine and Astatine.
Chlorine is found in sodium chloride that is obtained from the seawater. The sodium chloride is utilized by humans in a very large amount. Along with the chlorine, bromine and iodine are also obtained from the sea water.
Chlorine has bleaching properties and is used in bleaching compounds. Iodine is added to salts to make iodized salts. Bromine is used in to kill pests by adding in pesticides. This is very helpful in agricultural pest management.
Conclusion:
Thus, chlorine, bromine and iodine are the commonly obtained halogens from the seawater.
