Chapter 14, Problem 42E
Refer to the data given in the preceding exercise for Duo Company. Assume that the direct-labor rate is $24 per hour, and 10,000 labor hours are available per year. In addition, the company has a short supply of machine time. Only 8,000 hours are available each year. Uno requires 1 machine hour per unit, and Dos requires 2 machine hours per unit.
Required: Formulate the production planning problem as a linear program. Specifically identify (1) the decision variables, (2) the objective function, and (3) the constraints.

Assume that the operations manager of a small semi-conductor manufacturer
wants to run a Simulation model to better understand the uncertainties related to
cost and demand for a particular product. He assumes that the total cost per month
could be anywhere between $150,000 and $200,000 with equal likelihood. He also
assumes that the demand is normally distributed with a mean of 5,000 items per
month and a standard deviation of 1,000. Each item is sold for $95.
a) Use the random numbers in the following table to simulate the costs, revenues
and profits per month. Use Random Number A to generate the costs and Random
Number B to generate the revenues per month and then calculate the profit as the
difference between revenues and costs. Complete the table by reporting the
minimum, maximum and average profit per month according to this simulation.

Refer to the data given below.Required:1. Draw a scatter diagram and graph the company’s energy cost behavior using the visual-fit method.2. Predict the energy cost for a month in which 26,000 pints of applesauce are produced.3. What peculiarity is apparent from the scatter diagram? What should the cost analyst do?
The graphs below represent cost behavior patterns that might occur in acompany's cost structure. The vertical axis represents total cost, and thehorizontal axis represents activity output.
Required:For each of the following situations, choose the graph from the group a-1 that best illustrates the cost pattern involved. Also, for each situation, identify the driver that measures activity output.

Estimate a regression equation with application hours as the activity driver and the only independent variable. If the bank forecasts 2,600 application hours for the next month, what will be the budgeted application cost? 2. The theoretical cycle time for one of its products is 65 minutes per unit. The budgeted conversion costs for the manufacturing cell dedicated to the product are 12,960,000 per year. The total labor minutes available are 1,440,000. During the year, the cell was able to produce 0.6 units of the product per hour. Suppose also that production incentives exist to minimize unit product costs. Required: 1. Compute the theoretical conversion cost per unit. 2. Compute the applied conversion cost per minute (the amount of conversion cost actually assigned to the product). 3. Discuss how this approach to assigning conversion cost can improve delivery time performance. Explain how conversion cost acts as a performance driver for on-time deliveries.arrow_forward
