Concept explainers
a)
To explain the suggestions to improv the design.
a)
Explanation of Solution
The design should be making such that the results should be bias and equalize to each of the athletes. Therefore, First, they are using athletes who have a vested interest in the success of the shoe by virtue of their sponsorship. Then they should choose other athletes. Second, they should randomize the order of the runs, not run all the races with their shoes second. They should blind the athletes by disguising the shoes if possible, so they don’t know which athletes wearing which shoes. Therefore, the timers shouldn’t know which athletes are running with which shoes. Finally, they should replicate several times, since times will vary under both shoe conditions. Hence, in this way the design will be strong make a best conclusion.
b)
To explain why the shoe manufacturer not be able to generalize the results they find to all runners.
b)
Explanation of Solution
As we already explained in part a), the results they obtain may be biased with their shoes. Therefore, the results obtained for Olympic athletes may not be the same as for general runner.
