Interpretation:
Isoelectric point-pI value for glutamic acid is to be computed. To which terminal will the glutamic acid migrate in an electrophoresis with gel of pH
Concept introduction:
Isoelectric point (pI) or isoelectric pH is the pH at which the substance has zero charge. Amino acid’s pI is the average of two pKa values involving zwitterions formation.
If the pH of the solution is higher than pI, the substance will deprotonate and will carry negative charge. Conversely, if the pH is lower than pI, the substance will protonate and will carry a positive charge.
Any ion that has net positive charge (cations) will migrate toward the negatively charged terminal i.e. cathode, and the ion with negative charge (anions) will migrate toward positively charged terminal i.e. anode.

- Explain briefly why sulfur mustard is soluble in the lipid bilayer membranes that surround human cells and in many fatty hydrocarbon polymers, while thiodiglycol used to synthesize sulfur mustard is less soluble in these hydrophobic materials and has greater solubility in water?arrow_forwardOk, I understand that but how does organic compounds in the acid allow it to function as a pigment.arrow_forwardThe next set of questions are assertion type: There are two statements in a sentence. Choose from the options A-E if A. Both statements are true and related B. Both statements are true but not related C. The first statement is true and the second statement is false D. The first statement is false and the second statement is true E. Both statements are false Benzylamine synthesis from benzaldehyde follows the mechanism of reductive amination BECAUSEbenzylamine is synthesised form benzaldehyde through an enamine intermediate Hyperconjugation can stabilise carbocation intermediates BECAUSE secbutyl carbocation can rearrange to a tertbutyl carbocation. Reductive amination requires a hydrogen on the carbonyl carbon to proceed BECAUSE Reductive amination converts only aldehydes to aminesarrow_forward
- Indicate the INCORRECT alternative: a) The hydrolysis of the esters is carried out with heating to boiling and in an acidic or basic medium. b) In the formation of cyanohydrins, a molecule of HCN is added to an aldehyde or ketone. c) The formation of imines is carried out much more quickly in an extremely acidic medium (pH=1.0) d) Esters are more reactive than amides. e) Acetals are the product of the addition of two alcohol molecules to an aldehyde or ketone.arrow_forwardWhat is reductive amination explain with example?arrow_forwardPkease give me the letter to fill the blank !arrow_forward
- Highlight in red each acidic location on the organic molecule at left. Highlight in blue each basic location on the organic molecule at right.arrow_forwardCircle the correct answer in each sentence. Thus sugar is a (simple ; complex) carbohydrate. The linkage marked "a" is a (acetal ; hemiacetal ; acetyl ; hemiacetyl) linkage and is in the (alpha ; beta) configuration. The linkage marked "b" is a (acetal ; hemiacetal ; acetyl ; hemiacetyl) linkage.arrow_forwardWhich question will your experiment investigate? (select one and delete the others) How does temperature affect how lactase drops work to break down lactose into glucose and galactose? How does pH affect how lactase drops work to break down lactose into glucose and galactose? How does agitation (movement) affect how lactase drops work to break down lactose into glucose and galactose? What variable will you change in this experiment? This is also called the Independent variable. How will you change it? What variable will you measure in this experiment to determine the effect of the variable you changed? This is also called the Dependent variable. How will you measure it? What variables will you keep the same in this experiment? Check off the items in this list that you would use for this experiment. You may add any items you feel you would need. O skim milk (which contains lactose) O Lactase drops O Graduated cylinder Eye dropper Ice cubes O pH paper O Hot plate Mixing spoon O…arrow_forward
